Around one in five adults experienced some form of abuse in childhood.

Many adult survivors of childhood abuse, are not aware of the resources available to them, neither are professionals supporting them.

I came across NAPAC a year or so ago, when I was researching resources available to support adult survivors of childhood abuse. Historically, Emotional Abuse or Neglect survivors had limited access to resources, which is why I was so pleased to find such a fantastic resource.

Working within Child Protection, I observe many parents who have been exposed to childhood trauma. But in reality who really recognises that their behaviours are a result of ‘Childhood Trauma’ what does that really look like, mean, what is trauma, the impact, how when many are taught to ‘just get over it’ or believe in some way it was their fault, ever recognise the true impact, when they are surviving the best they know how to.

Many people I support, are unable to relate their childhood to who they are now and how it may have had an impact on their life choices, physical and emotional well being and parenting. It is complex and the impact can have a life long affect. You don’t have to be a parent to benefit from this invaluable resource, it is for anyone, professionals supporting Children, Families and Adults to share.

NAPAC website is a must have resource for anyone supporting families, adults, not only to enhance your own knowledge but to signpost. The website is very informative, it has lots of relevant information, training opportunities, supports, downloadable resources, links to other targeted resources and it also has a helpline. They offer direct support to survivors and they will ensure they will know where to go to get support.

Don’t just land on the websites front page, explore the contents, you will be delighted with what you will find. In order for us to learn to maximise resources we must explore website content. ….and this one will be well worth your time.

NAPAC ‘We believe that every individual has the right to leave the impact of childhood abuse behind, grow as a person and enjoy a happy and fulfilled adult life.’
